Our trip back to the States.

The trip back home was a trip I will always remember. the plane was a big transport plane that loaded from the tail of the plane and the whole trip to Hawaii you could hear the ice breaking off the plane. It was very eery. Our first stop was at Midway where we had breakfast in the galley with the Air Force guys. Then after a little wait we were back in the air to Hawaii. When I got there we had to wait our turn to get out of there, and I was getting close to the date I couldn't travel, as I was 8 months along with Bob, so a friend of ours in Japan had given me his wife's name there to contact if I had time, and being we were on hold getting out of there I did. Which was a blessing as she knew someone there that put me ahead of all others to get on a plane to the states. I didn't know what I was going to do if I got stuck there as had David with me. Then we finally took off and were two hours out when # 1 engine went out and they had to dump fuel so we could get back to Hawaii. It was a bit scarey but we made it back, and then had to wait again until the plane was fixed. Same plane but a new engine, and we were finally on our way. We arrived in Travis AFB in the middle of the night and I had to call Dad to come and pick me up. It was about a 3 hour trip for him to get there from San Jose. It was good to get on well know soil again, although I really liked being in Japan. It was 3 months before Gayl was able to get back, and in the meantime Bob was born on May 16th, 1956. We only stayed at Mom and Dad's a short time and then went to San Diego where Gayl was going to go to school and then after he finished school there we were really lucky and got orders back to Japan again.
This picture is of David and Bob at the beach at Mission Bay. Bob was really a chunk there.
